A very interesting development with regard to the dashCommerce Project yesterday (27 January):
http://dashcommerce.org/default.aspx?view=display_forum_posts&pageId=2&forumId=3&topicId=1021The short version is that the project's core team has decided that the next version of dashCommerce will only be offered as a Commercial Product without an open source offering. While I am not an opponent of commercial software - indeed I think Umbraco needs even
more commercial offerings to make it more compelling - I don't agree with taking a 100% open source project and making it 100% commercial. It seems to me that the project's core team needs to consider the implications of this move carefully and offer, at the very least, a continuation of the open source project alongside the commercial offering.
For what it's worth, the core of
dashCommerce for Umbraco (not sure if that'll be the actual project name) will be an open source project with full source available via CodePlex. That said, we do plan to offer 'value added services' as complements to the core - but these will be strictly 'non-core' features.
