In spite of the grief I know it will cause (apologies in advance) I've decided to post a very early Preview of our Commerce4Umbraco project. http://motusconnect.com/commerce4umbraco.aspxThere is still a way to go, but here we are. -Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009 See you at Codegarden08 US in Chicago!

Nice work! Any chance you can post some screendumps of the backend somewhere, for those of us who doesn't know what dashCommerce is? /SoerenS Brug for råd til hvordan du driver en god webshop? / Need advice on how to run an effective webshop?

I had a good go at installing this into our dev environment but I have the following issues.
its refering on to namespace UmbracoCourseSession02.UserProfile but doesnt exist in the project. Most initial issues seem to be with the membership provider sections.
I commented all of the membership stuff out to see how far I could get from there and had issues getting the macros setup. I cant remember off the top of my head which ones caused the issues but I will have a look and post them later.
Im really interested in getting this going and look forward to more progress being made.
Thanks
Peter :-)

I too have spent a good amount of time trying to get this to run and am very very keen to help get it running.
Peter you need change UmbracoCourseSession02.UserProfile to dc4Umbraco.UserProfile
This will get you past that error but I still have lots of issues trying to get the macros to run.

Great project Paul! I just wonder, shouldn't database going to be updated somehow to keep all the ordering info? Or the whole project uses dashCommerce db? Is there any link to see the schema of it? Thanks, I would also involve in this as much as I can! Cheers! Nikola

All - I certainly feel your pain in getting this to run - it's not even close to just run out of the box. For that, I apologize. I can only ask that you not get discouraged with the current state of this project and hang on for a few weeks until we've made further progress. I had been contacted by a number of folks directly asking if I could send them an 'early' version of the project. I thought, rather than send to only these folks, I'd send it out to the larger community. And here it is. I'll correct the UmbracoCourse02.*** reference and spend a few minutes today packing up the Umbraco bits (templates, doc types, etc...). I'd like to not get distracted with creating install guides, etc... at this point since there's still a ways to go. Thanks for the interest and replies. -Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009 See you at Codegarden08 US in Chicago!

@Soeren- Great idea about the screen shots for dashCommerce. In the meantime have a look at the dashCommerce site: http://www.dashcommerce.org/It's a straightforward installation. Once we have the Admin UI more or less stable we'll release another Preview - I'd say 7-10 days based on the current pace. @Nikola - Exactly. We've decided to keep the dashCommerce database distinct from the Umbraco database. This is merely for convenience as one could create the required schema for dashCommerce in the Umbraco database - the objects are uniquely named. So if you need to keep all you objects in one database (for hosting or other reasons) it shouldn't be a problem. -Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009 See you at Codegarden08 US in Chicago!

All - I've updated the archive file with a Readme file and have created an Umbraco Package with the required Macros, Document Types, Templates, and Content nodes. (I used Per's excellent Package Creator - nicely done!) You can find the updated archive file here: http://motusconnect.com/commerce4umbraco.aspxPlease let me know your experience with this. @Matthew - I found that the archive is missing a file (Microsoft.Practices.ObjectBuilder.dll) that is a dependency. It is now included or you can copy it from the April 2007 Patterns and Practices distribution if you have that handy. -Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009 See you at Codegarden08 US in Chicago!

Steen - Ah...that does suck. The dashCommerce 2.2 release is gone. In the next preview release of Commerce for Umbraco we have the Administration part also so there will be no need for a separate dashCommerce 2.2 install. In the meantime the below change set is dashCommerce 2.2 with some fixes rolled in: http://www.codeplex.com/dashCommerce/SourceControl/DownloadSourceCode.aspx?changeSetId=27356If that doesn't work for you and you can't wait a bit post again here with your email address and I'll send the dashCommerce 2.2 bit your way. -Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009 See you at Codegarden08 US in Chicago!

Hey Paul - thanx ! just what I was looking for.
After a few ajustments (a small change to install.aspx.cs, manually making an administrator user/role, and a little thing in one of the sql install scripts) I now have the dc 2.2 up and running :-)
I am still having some troubles getting the integration to umbraco to work thow, but I'm on the way !

I have tried the distro of dashCommerce sugegsted and noted the SQL errors and Role errors.
Could you by any chance provide me with the source for the system that actually installs correctly?

Kenneth - I can probably get you the last release of 2.2 which has been installed more than 25,000 times - so I assume it works. Can you send me an email at the address on this page: http://www.motusconnect.com/contact.aspx-Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009 See you at Codegarden08 US in Chicago!

Commerce for Umbraco - Preview 1, Build 4 Ready Just a note for those holding out for a more stable and robust version of Commerce for Umbraco - we're almost there! Commerce for Umbraco - Preview 1 Build 4 CompleteThe plan is to have a very solid Beta in place before Codegarden08 but the more input we get from this build the better. Thank you! -Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009 See you at Codegarden08 US in Chicago!

Did you have Permission to use the name Umbraco? I am not sure, but i thought you have to ask permission to use the Umbraco name, its not my problem, but it would be a little bit nasty if you have to change your product name afterwards.

I think that it _is_ allowed to use the "XXXXXXX for Umbraco" in your product name. What is not allowed is "Umbraco XXXXXXX", because that signals that it is a release by the Core team.

What a great reminder that trademarks and permissions matter! I think the open source world sometimes forgets that. In this case, "Commerce for Umbraco" should be fine as long as it is an open source project. The shorthand version of Commerce4Umbraco would probably require approval by Niels. For that matter, anytime the word "umbraco" appears in a product name it should be approved by Niels, in writing. This is to protect everyone from ever having a moment when 'it would be a little bit nasty if you have to change your product name afterwards.' Here is a post that explains what should and shouldn't be done when you think about naming your products. http://forum.umbraco.org/yaf_postst4156_The-blog-post-about-Trademarks-Guidelines-might-need-some-clarification.aspxcheers, doug.

Sjors - Yes, I've followed the guidelines for including 'Umbraco' in the project name. In fact, I had mistakenly used 'Umbraco' as part of a branded domain in November 2007, which is what prompted the thread Doug mentions above. Not much of a claim to fame but it did serve to clarify the guidelines as Niels created this post soon after our correspondence. It's great that we have a community so attentive to protecting the "brand" Umbraco (and it IS a great brand!) but my opinion is that we also need to support those in the community who are working towards extending Umbraco to appeal to a broader audience (whether it's commerce or the novice user) as this further enhances the Umbraco brand. -Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009 See you at Codegarden08 US in Chicago!

I have no problem with the titles for this project and Paul have been excellent in asking during the process. I think this project - and the umbraco store that it'll run later - is a HUGE benefit for the umbraco project and community as a whole.
Fantastic job and I love the open process in your various blogs! Keep up the great work, Paul!
Jeeeez, did I really start this :-)
