Simple Caching Questions Options

Hello,

I am working with the caching functionality with Umbraco Macros for the first time, and have a few questions. What is the difference between 'Cache by Page' and 'Cache Personalized'? If I check both, what happens? If i check neither, does this disable caching, even if I set the cache period > 0?
