Would it be impossible or pointless to implement forums (like these) in Umbraco?
I'm just getting started with Umbraco so I'm not sure what's possible.

You could certainly make a basic forum with umbraco using Doc2Form (formerly called AutoForm Plus) or even AutoForm and some templates and macros. In fact, the previous umbraco forum was done more or less like that and had more than 20,000 posts in it. Or, look at the Yet Another Forum integration work. You can read more in these links: http://forum.umbraco.org/yaf_postst2257_Integrated-Forum.aspxhttp://skiltzonnet.blogspot.com/2008/02/integrating-yetanotherforumnet-into.htmlThis umbraco forum is currently running with YAF, though not integrated with umbraco. What you'll find with umbraco is that many, many things are possible and surprisingly easy to do, and almost never needing the source code at all... which means upgrades are easy. cheers, doug.

We are in need of an integrated Umbraco Forum (for both of my companies and several clients). I see a great commercial opportunity here for a talented Umbracian. I'd be willing to discuss sponsoring the development if anyone is interested. Let's keep the discussion open on this thread for now. -Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009

Just curious. Is Someone allready working on a Forum Package? Or Integrating a forum into Umbraco. I don't mean the Yet Another Forum Package, this one is using GPL as a license and I don't want to use that.

I don't believe there is an active project for an Umbraco Forum. If there is I'd love to hear about it. -Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009

Hi guys, I might be offering some help on creating an integrated umbraco Forum. I'm even willing to take the lead in this. Bear in mind though that I consider this project as an opportunity to give something back to the community(As I have already received lots of support as well) and that I won't be working full time on this assignment. A learning curve might be involved, but with all the fine people in the community, it shouldn't be a issue. Help will surely be appreciated. @Paul: we might as well work towards a solution that may also fit the needs of (your) customers. Please share all ideas you have on this subject and I'm sure we can work out a list of to do items, based on priority. I love starting small but still delivering solutions that work! As do customers! From my part, I will also work on a first list of items I'd wish to be included. Project could be shared on Codeplex, either as a separate project or integrated in the existing umbracoext project (I'd prefer the first option though). Let's share our ideas here. As soon as we get a first simple and small list, we might start looking at how to proceed, right? Regards, /Dirk

Hi Dirk, Nice Initiative.. I might work on some tasks as well. Yesterday I was still Playing arround with YAF and it's got a lot of functionality. To build this from scratch will at least take months. On the website they have some Info of how to integrate the forum into DotnetNuke. So maybe it is possible create a similar package where the forum can be integrated in Umbraco without violating the GPL License? Please let me know if this sounds like a good Idea? If it is we can investigate more on this and see how we can Integrate the forum in Umbraco. Regards, Richard
