Hi,

I am pretty new to Umbraco and would appreciate any thoughts/feedback on how to control membership from an external SQL Server 2000 database.

Basically I have to deliver a CMS website, whereby all the members for the site already exist on an external SQL Server 2000 database. To stop duplication of data I am allowed read only access to this database.

What is the easiest method to achieve this, - I would like to do this as simple as possible without botching the original Umbraco code. I also want to store the CMS data locally as per norm with Umbraco.

I intend to use v3.05.

Cheers

Hi, and welcome to umbraco!

In umbraco 4, membership providers are built-in. If you can wait, that is the easiest approach. (You can also get the beta1 of v4 to get started now, but obviously it shouldn't be used in production)

If you need to get started immediately, but with umbraco 3, check out this extremely detailed post: http://forum.umbraco.org/yaf_postst4284_What-are-your-thoughts-re-webapp-dev-w-Umbraco.aspx

cheers,
doug.

Hi, many thanks for this - I will have a play about with code that does something along those lines.

I perhaps need to get started within the next month, so no rush yet, but will definately be using v3.05 for this for now. Would like to consider all the options.

I would prefer to stay away from the idea of importing the login data as this means further duplication.

If any others have any ideas/methods to post please let me know.
Cheers
