Can login and the CMS comes up but there is no file tree or anything other than the content section and a blank page on the client's Mac OS -X. Operating system is 10.4 This is in IE latest version but umbraco does not hold saved changes in either Firefox or Safari on the Mac so we told them to try IE.

I dont think you should expect too much from IE on Mac. http://news.cnet.com/2100-1045_3-1017126.html

Strange - we do all our development on a Mac. Using Umbraco 3, there are a few oddities in Firefox/Safari but everything does work. Using Umbraco 4, it actually works better in Firefox than in IE. However if you are really convinced that your client should use IE, then you can get IE6 for Mac here: http://www.kronenberg.org/ies4osx/But I really doubt that the problem is with FF or Safari - sounds like a more serious problem than that! I strongly recommend you stop support for IE for Mac especially as Microsoft has made it no longer available and stopped development on it, they recommend users on the Mac to use Safari or Firefox. Warren Warren Buckley an Umbraco MVP 08-09 & level 1 certified developer

The responses I have received so far mostly diss IE. We have no problem sending the client to Firefox or Safari but when we have worked in there, the ability to save and publish documents has been sporadic at best. Changes can be made in the HTML and then saved and deleted. Any body out there have this issue in these browsers on Mac OS-X 10.4.11? Thanks.
