I am excited to announce to my colleagues here that we have finally launched our new Web site running on umbraco. The site (actually 2 sites on one umbraco installation) serves the general public as well as the faculty and staff of our public school district in Lexington, Kentucky.

We saved our cash-strapped organization a lot of money by going with umbraco. Other commercial vendors wanted tens of thousands of dollars to help us set up a CMS. Thanks to umbraco and the patient, dedicated group of people here, we were able to do it on a shoestring. But I don't think we sacrificed one bit on the functionality of the site.

I want to especially thank Doug Robar and John Hodgkinson. You guys bent over backwards to help me on numerous occasions. I could not have pulled this off without your help! Several others helped as well at one time or another. I am looking forward to meeting some of you in Chicago in October!

Oh, here is the URL of our new site: http://www.fcps.net

Next on the agenda: Developing more sites in umbraco for some or all of our 55 schools.
