Is it possible in v3.0.5 to put an edit button within the frontend, say within a news article. So that if clicked you will be sent to the admin area and the relevent articles edit page. Was trying to use openContent(id) in the url but i cant get it to work.
anyone got any ideas?

You only asked for technical help and I don't have a technical answer for you. But if you are interested in my opinion, read on. This is a very bad idea. This is one of the things I love about umbraco (and hate about the "nuke" type platforms). Think about it. By putting that edit button out there for the whole world to see, it's like hanging an invitation to malicious hackers to take a shot at your site. Probably 90% + of all professional sites are now being run on some type of CMS, yet you never see edit or admin logon buttons on these sites, for good reason. I urge you to reconsider.

The trick is to look for the Umbraco backend cookie before you display the button... Casey does that in this package as did Kasper in the old pseudo-frontend example at old.Umbraco.org... // ;) Kalle

pkoutoul - not to worry this is just for an area which is not viewable to the public and only outputs to a devURL within our internal network. So there shouldnt be any security issues. But yeh on a public site, i agrre, an edit buitton's a bit of an odd idea.
kalpa - thanks that's just what i was after

@rorythecheese: Sorry if I sounded preachy. There have been a few similar questions in the past where people actually wanted this on a public page. @Kalle: I completely missed Casey's package. Nice.
