first of I have not yet had a deep look at the actual code the is umbraco.

But, I'm setting here playing at bit around with umbraco, multiple file upload, galleries and so forth. And I find my self wondering why things are constructed in such a way that for instance jpeg images can not be access'd by:

www.myumbracosite.com/media/mygallery/myimage.jpg

but instead:

www.myumbracosite.com/media/123/myimage.jpg

Now it is clear to me that the path where the images are stored works with an ID. But is it impossible to extend umbraco in such a way that we have logical and friendly url's to the media section?
