Hi Folks!

I just tried to install umbraco on a win2003 server at a swedish hosting company.

The first thing I encountered where this (shortened) Error message:

<strong><em>Required permissions cannot be acquired.
Exception Details: System.Security.Policy.PolicyException: Required permissions cannot be acquired.</em></strong>

I believe that this is related to Medium v/s Full trust level and my question is what parts of Umbraco that requires the Full trust level?

Is it a Core demand or is it related to any Extensions?

Best Regards,

Kalle

Just like Colin Towns noticed in this <a href="http://forum.umbraco.org/misc/unsafe-dlls"> unanswered thread </a> it seems (at a first glance) that it is imageManipulation.dll that is marked unsafe.

I deleted it from the bin folder and now I see an expected SQL Server error instead. What's really up with imageManipulation.dll?

BTW, the Bold, Italic and Lnk buttons in this forum doesn't work in Firefox 1.5...

Im having the same required permissions issue. I too deleted the image manipulation DLL and got the SQL server error. Unfortunatly I havent been able to move forward.

I am hosting in a shared hosting/.net 2.0 with SQL 2005 database. Has anyone posted on how to continue with the install without deleting DLLs?

Thanks,

Tom

we really need a solution to this medium trust issue. If umbraco wont work under medium trust, that's going to disqualify ALOT of potential users as it seems most shared hosting companies insist on running .net 2 in medium trust.

what are our options? i'm really stuck with this one too, and not sure how to move forward from here. some advice or direction from the core development team would be greatly apreciated...

I really feel like putting myself in line on this subject. I don't really seem to get anywhere because of this problem.

I think the only solution at this point is to find a host that will allow you to run your sites in high trust.. they are out there - just email and ask them. I've found 2 aussie servers that will do it for me, so its been a bonus for me (forced me to reconsider my hosting arrangement, and found some solid and not very expensive aussie hosting). :)

good luck

I agree, I actually set up a dedicated server in order to run my Umbraco client projects. I gave up on persuading my web hosting company to switch to full trust after numerous attempts.

I'm thinking I should start another Umbraco hosting server just to enable people to actually get their sites up and running... ;) I wonder how much people would be willing to pay though...? I can't afford to run it as charity... :/

Hey Ted,

I managed to find a host that would allow me to run my sites in full trust... and as it turns out they're the best host i've had the privelage of dealing with! Get in touch if you'd like information about them... they have servers in australia, usa and singapore, with options for shared (works with umbraco), vps and dedicated.
