This topic was the brain-child of a late night codegarden us discussion. I was not introduced to couch surfing until this past summer in Copenhagen. Basically, you can travel in a more budget considerate and community building way by being a guest of your fellow human being. post here if you are willing to host umbraco guests and also post here if you are searching for a place to stay for a night or two on your travels. The baty-barr family has a very modest 120 year old home in the midwest of the united states [30 miles west of chicago] but would be very willing to host an umbracian for a night or two during any travels of the USA they might be engaged in. thanks.

I have a friend who used www.couchsurfing.com a few times, most notably in Barcelona where they had a great time. Richard

Nice idea Bob! I've used couchsurfing a few times, with variable results. One awful night in a squat in Moscow, and a couple of excellent nights with a very friendly woman and her old mother in St. Petersburg. We returned the favour when she came to stay with us in Glasgow a few weeks later which was good. I'm more than happy for any Umbracians who are passing through Glasgow (why?) to avail of my spare room with a bit of notice. That way there'll be someone in the flat who understands what I'm talking about: "mutter mutter macros xslt usercontrols etc" doesn't really entertain my girlfriend that much! I would be happy to host a fellow Umbracian. Fairfax, CA (Just North of San Francisco, CA)Fairfax CA is the birth place of Mountain Biking in the USA. We pass the original garage where Gary Fisher, Charlie Kelley and Tom Ritchey built the first production mountain bikes and sold via mail order. Sincerely, Jose

Hi Bob, It might well have been me who told you about Couch Surfing at CodeGarden08 as I was Couch Surfing at the time in Copenhagen :) I have subsequently been back to Copenhagen to visit the friends I made on my first trip and I've also couch surfer over in New Jersey while visiting New York, all very positive experiences! Any Umbraco dev's needing a couch to crash in Reading, UK just look me up. Cheers, Chris
