Since it has been announced that there will not be a 2009 conference in North America, I am curious about the interest level in having a meet-up/unofficial conference. I am thinking late September, October timeframe would be the optimal time, but we could push into November if necessary. We would need to find a venue and sponsors for the event to make it happen. Not to mention, we would need to have attendees. So, if you are interested in attending, hosting, or sponsoring such an event, please feel free to post back here, or contact me via email at casey at neehouse dot com. I am open to suggestions, speakers, sessions, etc. I would be looking for at least 20 people to attend, and would hope to keep any costs beyond travel and lodging for the attendee to a minimum. We would plan for at least one day, if not two pending the response and number of sessions and speakers proposed. Your thoughts and feedback are encouraged. Case

Case - Sounds good...would love to hook in the US and Canada Umbraco users who can't make it to CG09. My votes would be to do this as late in the year as possible. What do you think of a format similar to 'Day of DNN?' http://www.dayofdnn.com/-Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009

@psterling, I will look over the Day of DNN stuff. Would you be interested in hosting classes before and/or after the event?

Sounds good to me. I'm interested in learning more about the platform from other users/developers.

There would be several developers here in Oklahoma that would be interested. Was there any reason that PA was being talked about? That's still quite far from us...

The problem with US/Canada is that it's just so darn big - no matter where we decide to hold the meet it will entail travel for 'most' of the attendees. I suppose the best we can do if to locate it somewhere central - Chicago worked well last year, perhaps Dallas, or Las Vegas in that travel is cheap and space is plentiful. -Paul motusconnect.com :: level-2 certified :: MVP 2008/2009

Wow, what a great response thus far. For those who have not edited their profile, please add your location or email it to me if you want to remain anonymous. I will use this to help determine what could be the best location. Also, if you are responding for several people... IE your whole team or business partner, be sure to state that the would be up to x number attending from that location. Simply, if a business will possibly send 5 or 10 people, then we will weight that into the selection criteria, as we could likely get sponsorship or facilities out of hosting the event nearby or at their location. How exciting!

This is a great idea, nice to see so many interested in North America. I'd like to suggest Atlanta as a convenient meeting location. It's very easy to get here, with direct flights from just about everywhere. Depending on the numbers, we may be able to host at Definition 6's offices, which are located right in midtown.

I'm only good for one person, but I will definitely mark the calendar and book my flight if/when a date is set. Any thoughts on web-conferencing one/some of the sessions to reduce travel on those who can't afford it or make time to attend in person? That might have value from a marketing standpoint as well.

Depending on the location of the event, we'd probably send a couple from Stonehenge Partners. Central US would be better. Depending on the number attending would could potentially even host it here in our facilities in Tulsa.

After having a quick call with Matt and Company, it sounds like there is 15-20 people that would participate from the Tulsa, OK area (if it where to happen there). I am waiting to hear back regarding an Atlanta area offer, and am open to other suggestions at this time as well. Please provide comments regarding Tulsa being a possibility. Also, please consider the last week of October in your comments, and which days would work best for you. IE Early week, mid week, or end-of week. If this works out to be a rather large response, we may look into multiple events next year! Thanks Case

Is there any reason we can't have multiple locations or is that too much to manage. I think the Silicon Valley would be able to have enough attendants to host their own. I'm currently located in Manila and have been training around 12 students on Umbraco basics every 8 weeks. We have a few tie ups with some of the Universities and Colleges here for an On-the-Job training program for Computer Science majors. I'm not an official rep of Umbraco but I would love to be!

Hi Michael, I think having multiple locations may be a good idea, however, I do not want to splinter the efforts just yet. If there is enough interest for having an event in SV, then I am totally for it. As of right now, I do not see much of a response from that area. Same goes for each of the other areas. If we can get enough interest in each area, would could possibly spur regional meet-ups, and still have a combined meeting as well. Get your contacts to respond to this thread or myself, and we can go from there.

I'm interested. Would like a location with good (and cheap) air access. I've been hearing nice things about Tulsa, but have never spent any time there.
Chicago was great, but hotels are $$. Las Vegas could be fun. Pittsburgh was a consideration last time and I know there are cheap flights from many places.
I think having Nils and/or Per attend would be a big draw.

We can host it in Atlanta at the Definition 6 offices. If it's not more than 15-20 people we can accomodate it at our office, if not we may need to explore other venues. Atlanta is typically pretty easy for almost anyone to fly to, and no shortage of hotels, etc.
