Greetings all,
I'm running a Windows 2003 server with IIS 6.0. My server guy installed Umbraco in the root directory of IIS c:/InetPut. The Runway site is there and Umbraco seems to be working just fine.
I'd like to use Umbraco as the CMS for other sites hosted on the server, which are on a different drive entirely. I'm not sure how to set this up. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, No problem to use the server to host multiple umbraco sites. Let the server guy set up a new site in iis (and set home dir to directory where you've copied all umbraco files - in case you're doing a manual install) Bottom line: it doesn't matter where you're storing the files on server, just need to setup up iis correctly so it can find the files. Do you need more info? Feel free to ask. Cheers, /Dirk

Greetings Dirk,
Okay - I think I understand...but of course, more questions...
When I set up sites in IIS, each website gets its own directory.
If I want each website to be managed with Umbraco, do I need to install / copy all Umbraco files into each website's own directory?
If so, I'm assuming those files have to be copied into the root of that website's directory. Is this correct?
Thanks for your assistance!
Best Regards,
Mark

Mark, You're absolutely right about that. Apart from that, there's another option: umbraco can also be used to host multiple websites (It requires some changes in configuration which are all quite straightforward) Latter is to be considered if the websites are to be maintained by the same client. Rule of thumb: if client is the same, you may (but are not required) use the same umbraco instance to maintain content. If client's are different, use different websites/umbraco instances. Cheers, /Dirk

Greetings Dirk,
Thanks - small clarification required.
Do the files simply need to be copied from where they were originally installed or does Umbraco need to be installed in the root directory of each website?
Most websites are going to be maintained by different clients, so I'll have multiple Umbraco instances, based on your description above. Thank you for your help!
Best Regards,
Mark
<edit> Dirk - just talked to my server technician who is going to teach me how to do the installations required, so this should be fun. Thanks for your help!</edit>

Hi,
This interests me. I thought it was only possible to run one instance of umbraco on IIS6, maybe I have misunderstood? Can you run multiple instances of umbraco on one IIS6?
