Has anyone out there attempted this yet? How did you go? If its been done, and i can replicate that, then i think that's what i need to convince me that umbraco is the cms for me. :)

What do you need from Community Server that Umbraco can't deliver?
Also, there is no datasource out there that can't be integrated with umbraco. It's just the matter of writing the right extentions (usually this is done in wery few lines of code too).

What do i need from CS? - Fully featured forums - Awesome image gallery - Great blogging tool (okay Umbraco one is good too) - User profiles pages - Personal messaging
Sure i could build it all from scratch in Umbraco, but why reinvent the wheel (especially a wheel as well-rounded as CS)??
Re: Integration... perhaps that would be the way to go... just learn Umbraco, then learn CS, then integreate them. sounds like lots of work, but worthwhile in the end methinks.
Anyone care to help me on said mission?

Maybe you could install CS in a subdomain/folder/virtual dir and see if the two "applications" can run side by side. Then you properly could do a lot of you integration from CS into umbraco via the RSS feeds CS offer. For the rest of the stuff you need to inter grate you could properly use the CS api Regards/Christian www.cpalm.dk

Yeah... thats probably what i'll try. First i gotta get Umbraco working on my local machine. Then CS.
Then figure out how they both work. Then try to use CS API from within Umbraco. Then try to get CS control panel integrated into Umbraco. Then decide which user base to use. Then somehow integrate user base.
I was hoping somebody else out there may have already attempted this, or better yet succeeded. Guess that was wishful thinking. :(
thanks for the Advice... keep it coming - i'll need all the help i can get.
Cheers Greg

Umbraco for creating the website (web pages, content items, etc)
CS (or considering ASPPlayground now) for forums & photo gallery functionality.
Also, many sites i create for clients won't require photo gallery or forums, so umbraco would be a perfect fit for those sites.
is this what you wanted to know?

Yes My comment on this >Then figure out how they both work. Yes >Then try to use CS API from within Umbraco. Yes (but see next comment) >Then try to get CS control panel integrated into Umbraco. This will be a hard job i think... the easy way is to keep the two control panels (cs and umbraco) >Then decide which user base to use. I would go for cs, since forum and photo depends on cs member base >Then somehow integrate user base. Yes, you should beable to do sume front-end umbraco stuff using cs api

Thanks Christian... i'm actually thinking about going for ASPPlayground forum/gallery system instaed. mainly because CS has limited documentation, and keeps changing drastically with each release (so upgrade path not so good).
I guess its the same thing in the end (except i might get a bit more useful support from ASPPlayground guys).
