One of the key areas i have always felt was overlooked by CMS was in form building and form (response) management.

I would love to see Umbraco solve this and give itself a real must have feature for powerful form building and response management.

Here's how i would see it working

We have a section called forms that when you click it would list the forms you have created (or allow you to build another one)

You would give the form a name and then complete the Mandetory form options (who do you want to recieve the form by email, would you like to manage the responces in umbraco etc)

You could then start to add form elements (maybe break them up into pages for multi page forms)

Once you have design your form you could then add management fields, these are fields that are not for the public but are to allow you to manage the responses etc.

When designing a page you could add the from using the macro tool or using umbraco script.

We can now deploy a range of custom forms, setup their induvidual actions, and manage the responses to froms directly in umbraco. May beable to use umbracos permissins to grant particular users access to diferent forms.

Im posting the idea here that we may be able to run this as a community project and would like to see what you guys think?

Any feedback would be great!

About half of the stuff you mentioned is capable of being done with Autoform utility.

Others could be handled differently than you propose.
• Multi-Paged or Tabbed Forms.
--- A quick modification to the Autoform utility could allow you to generate
the tabs similar to the backend.
• Email option.
--- A quick modification to the Autoform utility could allow you to specify,
save as node, email, or whatever other thing you may want.

So, simply put, I think the main thing to consider is modification of the
Autoform to allow more control over the processing of forms.

Excellent News.

One thing to bear in mind was that i would dearly love form management to be placed in the hands of normal users and not their developers.

Maybe its possible to create a simplified tool that is based on the autoform that is calles as a section.

Is there any good documentation for the autoform (or any demos etc)
