Hi

We are considering Umbraco as our new website platform. But we have consideration about the ability to use a custom made user authentication. The problem is, that we have a current database with users and roles. We need umbraco to use these since user registration has to be done thorugh a WinForm application.

What are the posibilities in umbraco? We have NO problem implementing our own code, but the process have to be quick and not influence with your source code so we are excluded from updating with new versions of umbraco.

If you can wait until the end of January when v3 final comes out, it supports .NET MemberShipProviders in the member section. That way you can simply implement this provider model for your own custom user management and umbraco will "understand" it.

Cheers,
Niels...

Jeeeez, did I really start this :-)

That is exactly what we are looking for. Is the membership implementation a part of the currenct available v3. beta? Can't find anything about this functionality.

By the way. If no work has been done in this area we are curious what the possibilities are for us developing this provider model and commit it to the source code.

If the work already has been delegated to anothers can we get in contact with these to discuss a more exact date for excected implementation. The problem is that our live date is medio Feb 2007. If the API is first made avaiable late January we are out of time adjusting our implementation.

Looking forward to hear from you.
