I'll ask for pardon in advance if this is an ignorant question, but where can one purchase/download the "New Forum" being tested at this url: http://forum.umbraco.org/new-forumI've walked through the various forum versions currently being used on the Umbraco website, but I've been unable to actually locate the download for this "new forum" module. And it seems that the forum extension in the existing Umbraco build is far less robust than the tool shown at the link above. Please advise. Thank you!

Hi Mathew, the "new" forum was made by Daniel Bjørnbakk. I must agree with you that it looks good and I would very much like to see it in use, or even better publised as a package. In this thread http://forum.umbraco.org/packages/umbraco-forum#post-5176 he writes that it he's plan to finish it but that he's swamped with other work [October 2006]. Cheers, Harald

Thanks for the response Harald. I spoke with Niels and to his knowledge the project was not completed, but he passed my email along to Daniel, so I'm waiting to hear something back from him at this point. I hope he has good news, or at least some time to work with me on this.
On the "new forum" itself, I agree this functionality provides a very clean and professional user experience. Personally, I find many of the off-the-shelf forum products to be somewhat "cluttered." It's like they've added so many bells and whistles that they've forgotten what the application was all about in the first place -- which was a quick, easy, and efficient means of communication for one's readers that can also serve as a repository of important topics.
I find the beginnings of the new umbraco tool to be a sort of "back to basics" effort. I find it very streamlined and intuitive, yet it also keeps some of the "goodies" related to the messages themselves (such as the ability to format text, or add smiles, or even send email notification, etc.). In effect, the Umbraco forum is simply to use, but that doesn't mean it lacks functionality. The difference in my mind is simply that its bells and whistles are only about enhancing the tool's usability as a forum -- not serving up private messaging or user stats or wysiwygs.
In short, I like it. :) Now all I have to do is get a finished version of it! :)
Anyway, I'll post anything I find out here.
Best regards, Mathew

Oops! Sorry about the three-peat. That might be a little touch of a bug there. :)
Best, Mathew
