Just starting to bang content into my awesome new umbraco build and got this error

"The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.

What can I do to sort this out?

Cheers

Tim

Two immediate options...

1. Don't nest your content so much
2. Use shorter descriptive names for each content node

To illustrate, rather than something like:

-Home
--Our Amazing Product Line
---The Best Widget Tool on the Market, eWidget
----Features and Benefits Summary for eWidget
-----eWidget Features Explored
-----eWidget Benefits Explored

Try something like:
-Home
--Products
---eWidget
----Summary
----Features
----Benefits

cheers,
doug.

Thanks doug i went through and did that this afternoon, is there anything else I can do long term or is this the one downside of umbraco.

Doesn't make sense to the use not nest things, I use nodeName a lot for page titles so think I am going to have to rething that but even then I going to struggle as I have a parent child relationship, going to have to have a rethink.

Thanks for your help

Cheers

Tim - we created a seperate field called NavTitle that we use for navigation and page titles...

actually we created a seperate field for PageTitle as well since some navigation components may need smaller lengths (ie: news/press releases)... not sure if this is over-kill or not yet... maybe some Umbraco vets can chime in on how they tackled this...
