I love the fact that Umbraco supports Rollbacks to the very first version of a page, but I also know that it can take up quite a bit of space in the DB. Now I'm wondering if anyone out there has built, or would build an Umbraco Cleanup package. The features that I suppose would be nice to have are: 1: A setting for how many versions to keep for roll back. 2: A setting for how long to keep the transaction log (i think that takes up quite a bit of space as well? 3: Scheduled cleanups (every night, once a week, once a month) Wouldn't this be a nice package to offer clients in order to save MSSQL costs and maitain high performance?

Hi Morton Atm I am doing an offline tool. The first feature I am doing is cleaning up the versions. The second feature is killing the umbracoLog (with some options). I will post the first version soon. Thomas

Would also be cool if the context menu gets a "clean up" option. And little bit same like publishing, that you can also cleanup childnodes. I have holiday now, so maybe i am gonna make it myself :)

Good idea... I will separate the functionality of clearing the versions in an own class, so you can use this for integrating... Try to get this till tonight... Thomas

I finished now the first version and as I promised I separeted the functionality in an own dll. So Sjors, you can use the functionality also for a backend tool. I have uploaded the runtime files to my site for the TH.Umb.Utilities. I you need the code mail me at th at thoehler dot com. Also mail me feature request, criticism and your minds. Thomas

Hi Thomas... It looks great! Sjors: For the integrated version it would be fantastic if there was an option for a scheduled cleanup that runs once a week or so.

No, in the actual builds of v3 there is no updatescript on the used tables and the logic... Installation: 1. put the files from the folder 'website' onto your webserver (the asmx into the folder webservices and the dlls to your bin folder) 2. take the TH.Umb.Utilities.exe and put it anywhere on your local computer 3. start the exe 4. under settings set the username of umbraco and the password (if you don't want your pwd be saved in the .settings file so leave it blank: you will be asked for it at usage) 5. under settings set the url of the asmx file on your webserver and please add http:// in the front. eg: http://www.yourdomain.tld/webservices/thUmbracoUtilities.asmx6. under Clearversions first hit the button "GetVersions" where you get informations about how many nodes and versions you have... hth Thomas

Also be aware that you step into your database, so please first make a backup of your db. In germany there is a saw: "I have already seen horses chuck up". Thomas

One restriction (atm): The webservice is made with .NET 2.0. If wanted I can port it to .NET 1.1 Thomas

Thanks Søren  What the tool is doing in detail is described on my website. deleting log entries is the next and also stats is an option, but I have to see when I have time (My wife is pregnant :D and has her nest building phase, so that I have a lot of work at home  ) Thomas

Great thomas
I didn't think there was an english version of the site since the link on your page goes to the german version - my german isn't that good, but I got the meaning out of it. :w00t:
