Is there a consensus (okay, an opinion) of the preferred approach when extending the Umbraco Administration UI and adding a new AREA node to the language xml file(s) used for localization?

Here's what I've considered, I'm leaning toward the 2nd approach:

1 - Create a new language file specific to the extension
2 - Add the new AREA to the existing language file(s)
3 - Something else?

I appreciate any input.
