I like the old forum, but this one is fantastic! Nice job bringing in all the old member logins and posts!! And the code editor... nice. And I can preview my posts. And I can edit my posts to fix typos. And, and... man, you're the best. Thanks, Niels. This will really help the community a lot! cheers, doug.

Really neat... Some issues: - viewing a member profile, clicking in the breadcrumb on members causes into an error - I am also impressed, that Niels is doing 337 posts per day Thomas

What a very nice surprise to start a new day, thanks Niels & the rest of the gang involved of rolling this update out, I have much love for you. I have a few recommendations, to make it really slick. The yaf page (user profile page) would be good for SEO for people if it was the user name instead of an id For eg: http://forum.umbraco.org/Default.aspx?g=profile&u=9becomes http://forum.umbraco.org/user/warrenSecondly if you could mark up the XHTML for users in the left hand column as microformat hCard which improves SEO in terms for the users using the forum, Last.FM do this on their user profiles www.last.fm/user/warrenbuckleyWarren :)

@Thomas: No wonder I don't have time to anything else. Yes, I was the only user who wasn't imported so I was created when YAF was installed but with all my old posts associated. I've removed the member list to ensure no robots crawl the list - that's why there's an error
@Warren: Sounds cool, maybe you could help out? Seems like you got a pretty good idea what it takes. The markup on the forum still needs to be cleaned - YAF is pretty souped :-/

Morning Niels! Yeh when I get some spare time I would like to help out where possible, as the hCard from Last.Fm has got my avatar in google search when searching for my own name, as opposed to some random photos that look nothing like me! :) What do you mean when you say? I'll second the compliments, nice one Niels, the new forum is a great improvement (not that the old one was terrible, just had a few bugs). Now, when can we expect it to be available as a package :D www.punkyduck.com

Yeah, this is great. Honestly I have been avoiding the forum because I HATED it.
This one rocks. I'll be hanging out more and no doubt learning more about my favorite CMS now. Thanks Niels.

Don't forget to fix or remove the 'Latest forum activity' on the umbraco.org front page. I understand this new forum is based on YAF? Is it integrated with umbraco in anyway? If so, will a package, code or intructions on how to set up a forum like this be available anywhere? Is it based on the DLL published by Skiltz some time ago: http://skiltzonnet.blogspot.com/2008/02/integrating-yetanotherforumnet-into.html MOBULA

This is simply a standalone YAF - it has nothing to do with umbraco. I needed something stable I could pull out fast, so this was the 2nd best solution and the one that was possible now.
Over time we can work on adjusting the features - removing some and look at integrating the users with members. With umbraco3.1 using MemberShipProviders, we might could give something back to the YAF project by integrating that. I still can't believe why YAF has SO many features, yet doesn't seem to invest in the most important thing when dealing with the web - proper separation of presentation and logic AND as a forum - easy integration. I had to modify parts of the core of YAF to do simple markup adjustments (not talking about the ascx's - talking about the .cs files). And as most forums will end up being a part of a site, I would also have invested time in making it much easier. But it's always free to criticize and overall it was easy to adjust YAF and it runs very smooth as a forum.
And if you guys are happy, I am too.

I meant that the markup could need a bit of TLC and as described above parts of the YAF markup can only be adjusted by hacking the source. Maybe I just got my hopes too high because of the way umbraco works ;-) The point system - no clue. Seems like you get 3 points for adding a post. This is an example of what I mean when I say that forum systems seems bloated and often driven by wrong focus. Adding "fun" features, but doesn't invest in the "unsexy ones" (markup and integration) that really matters. But again - I think YAF has killer potential if they could get some tight focused leadership, that would invest in "boring" features.

Great job on the new forum, it even encouraged me to write my first post! Just a quick one, it could do with a link at the top back to the main Umbraco site. Well done again.

Yes it's absolutely fabulous. Just a small usability thing: I kinda miss a home button. It works of course when you click the umbraco Forum logo, but I think people my expect a home button on the left of the "Inbox" button.

I'm viewing the forum in Firefox and running Firebug and it is not reporting any script errors or warnings.

Good job with the integration, didn't even realise you guys were looking at YAF integration and I'm looking forward to taking a look at your project ;-) However I would really like to reply to the point above, we (YAF) have just invested a helluva lot of time in the 1.9.3 alpha which focussed on a big shift towards providers and that definately was a lot of long unsexy work in order to move towards that integration your talking about. I think you'll find Jabens work in seperation on the next version much more logical and pleasurable to work with, so please take a look. As with all projects we have a long way to go and take your points regarding markup. If you have any constructive ideas regarding the mark up, lets us know ;-)

yaaaaaaaay finally a proper forum... good to see :)
I'm about to starting coding a fairly big site in umbraco, and am a little rusty having not used it for a while, so nice to see a well-organised forum to use. sweeeeet.
thanks all that were involved... oh, and is it being released as a package?

Doesn't look like it is integrated. But there is a nice little guide here: http://skiltzonnet.blogspot.com/search/label/Yet%20Another%20Forum
