Here's the problem I'm encountering..

I'm in the process of manually installing umbraco. I am actually following the instructions found on this link

http://umbraco.org/documentation/books/install-umbraco-30-on-windows-xp/

The problem is, in the link

http://umbraco.org/documentation/books/install-umbraco-30-on-windows-xp/configure-iis

i'm having trouble setting file permission for all of the files. Number 7 and 8 states that I need to type in

"ASPNET"

and then click

"check name" button.

BUt after clicking the button, another screen pops up with a title of

"NAME NOT FOUND"

and a message of

"An object named "aspnet" cannot be found. Check the selected object types and location for accuracy and ensure that you typed the object name correctly, or remove this object from the selection."

Man, I tried uninstalling everything, rebooting and reinstalling making sure that I did not made any mistake along the way but then the issue is still there..

I already tried skipping that part and actually doing the last instruction on the next page but the issue is still not fix..

Guys, help me..

btw, my OS is WINDOWS XP SP2..

Hi damnboi,

Let's try to find out why it doesn't work... yet!

Are you sure you can't find ASPNET user, not even when using COMPUTERNAME\ASPNET?
If you cannot find that user either way, try reinstalling asp.net (using aspnet_regiis util), this will sure the aspnet user gets created.

Make sure to use the correct version of asp.net, that is, if you're using asp.net v2.0, use aspnet_regiis from C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727

Hope that helps (a bit)
Regards
/Dirk

Hi Dirk

I really can't find ASPNET user, even when using COMPUTERNAME\ASPNET. I tried what you suggested about reinstalling asp.net through the path you gave me, but still no luck.

What puzzles me though is that when i'm in the IIS Window and going to properties of

"Website Description 2"

(i added a new one under the "Web Sites" Folder because the "Default Web Site" already has files in it and I already the stopped the process of the "Default Web Site" in order to start "Website Description 2"), what found under the ASP.NET tab in the

"File Location" is

"C:\Inetpub\umbraco\web.config"

instead of

"C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727"

that is shown in the figure of this link

Btw, I don't know if this part of the issue, but when I installed .Net Framework 2.0, it made an error because it was already in the system.. I tried uninstalling version 2.0 but the problem is, it won't let me because higher version of .Net framework is also installed. I checked my "Add/ Remove Programs" and there are actually three .Net Framework versions, namely: 2.0 Service Pack 1, 3.0 Service Pack 1 and 3.5. I really don't know if I can uninstall these three in order for me to install the 2.0.. To be frank, I'm scared to uninstall these three because I'm not sure if uninstalling them will create more issues or shall I say destroy my system.

Btw, thanks for replying.. Hoping these info helped in finding a sol'n.. Thanks again!

Hey Damnboi,

I've the very same problem as you do!

Everything was doing fine and it was the best install guide I've ever followed 'till this step ;-)

Have you discovered how to solve this?

I'm quite in a hurry as I'm installing it for a client of mine :-(

Thanks in advance for any help!

actually, i was able to resolve this by uninstalling all microsoft .net framework versions (so that includes 2, 3, and 3.5) and reinstall just version 2.

hope this solves your issue too.

I'll try but they only have .NET 2 installed...

Did you uninstall everything else (from the Umbraco install procedure) or just the .NET framework?

Okay, it was really easy...
I just had to launch the .NET 2.0 uninstall process and choose the "Repair" option instead of "Uninstall".
After a few minutes and a reboot, the ASPNET user was available!
Thanks!

PS: Is there a way to change the name of the thread to '[solved] "NAME NOT FOUND" error'?
