This is very peculiar. I can't imagine there's a situation in which "wild" is not allowed as a nodename (indeed, I just tried it on a v3.0.3 installation and it was fine).
Something is obviously not quite right somewhere. But where.... hmmm.
For lack of something else to try, try these things and see if it makes any difference. Any change in behavior would give us a clue.
1. Do you have more than one "wild" node in your site, at any location? If so, rename the other node and leave the problematic node set to "wild". Any change? If so, please explain where these nodes are in your tree.
2. right-click on the very first node in the content tree ('Content') and select the Republish Entire Site menu. Any change?
3. right-click on the top-most node(s) in the content tree and select the Publish menu (be sure to check the 'publish children' box). Repeat for every top-most node until you've done them all. Any change?
4. Temporarily, disable the directory url's and repeat step 3 for the change to take effect. The url will now be /wild.aspx. Any change?
5. Using the ?altTemplate=template-alias-name syntax, try to display the "wild" page and force it to render with a different template. Such as, /wild.aspx?altTemplate=homepage (assuming you have a 'homepage' template).
Let us know what you find out. I'm sure that when this has been resolved we'll kick ourselves for not realizing the problem immediately. I probably will at least :)
cheers,
doug.
