I expect this is easier than I'm making it, or I hope it is at least.

I have a domain which was previously stand-alone and is now a sub-site of a larger site. I am unable to configure correctly so that the existing domain resolves to the correct node - thereby preserving search rankings, AdWords placements, etc....

Here's what I'd like:
- Site Home > magicamerican.com
-- Sub Site Home > gonzocorp.com AND magicamerican.com/sub-site-home.aspx

Thanks,
-Paul

Hi Paul!

That should be doable, just make sure you leave out http:// from the manage hostnames dialog. If you open the node you should be able to see all alt. Urls in the properties tab...

You might need to republish the nodes for your settings to stick...

Are you using HostsMan www.abelhadigital.com ? If not make sure you install it and you can assign any test url of your choice to your localhost (127.0.0.1) or staging servers, that's excellent for testing different urls before you actually redirect the live DNS. You could edit the hosts file manually but I think HostsMan is far easier...

Kalle -

Thanks for the help on this. I'm still missing something and need to give it a bit more thought I guess. This scenario occurred when a webmaster moved the nodes under the new root - he says it worked in the staging environment. Anyhow, a testament to how easy this is to accomplish in Umbraco (moving an entire site) but something I didn't anticipate.

If you want to primarily use the magicamerican.com addresses, then you could just remove the old hostnames from the nodes, and add them to the urlrewriting.config file instead. That would also allow you to return at 301 redirect for alle the old domains subpages, and get the links updated in the search engines.
