Is a complete(!) German language-file for V4 available? Options

Hello,

I'm running V4 and its the best Umbraco ever - great work!

But well, I'm german, and Umbraco talking german would be even cooler.
Is there a complete(!) language-file available or in work?

If not, I would volunteer in creating one. I guess my german is better than my english and my girlfriend is a living and talking (sometimes too much) spell-checking-machine. ;-)

Just tell me where to start.

Awesome Arnim,

You just need to translate this file :

http://www.codeplex.com/umbraco/SourceControl/changeset/view/44978#447285

And once you're done just post it here and we'll make sure it's added.

I translated that into norwegian today, but says the culture: no-NO is not supported.
Is this something you guys need to do?

Will gladly share the .xml but gotta go through it 2-3 times and check for spelling before that(If someone wants it that is)

Fredrik

Fast question: I am translating from danish/swedish version of umbraco. And I see that they miss some code that the English got. Most of it got got "version="3.0" and version="4.0" in it like this:

<key alias="path" version="4.0">Path</key>
<key alias="loading" version="3.0">Loading</key>

Should I translate from the english instead than the swedish/danish?

Fredrik

Got the norwegian translated now! It's translated from the Swedish/Danish V.4 files on Codeplex

If you want to DL the file from megaupload it's here:MegaUpload || Umbraco-no

And the code is here if you find that faster:

Fredrik

This very long post has become the top match for most of my searches, since it apparently matches many key words. Would it be possible to move this code elsewhere?

Nope,

I'd advice against deleting it unless it has been added to the core distribution.
I'm not sure whehter that has happened already. But until then, we won't delete or edit the post.

/Dirk

Not sure if it's been added, but should be added as a patch to codeplex.

It's so fantastic that you guys are producing these files and I have good news. We've been working on a translation tool for umbraco language files that will be added to umbraco.org next week. It's basically a wiki for editing language files and we'll add files to the package repository over time so new languages can be added asynchronously with Umbraco releases. It's our hope that people will help us translating umbraco to as many new languages as possible before the release on Jan 30th (even though it'll only be around 10 days before when the tool goes online).

This compliments the package repository in terms of the way the community are making the distributed software better and we'll keep trying to find ways to make this better and easier (just like we added the package generator and repo submission button inside Umbraco 4).

Our community is the *best* feature in Umbraco - you guys rock!

I have created a german language file from the actual v2 RC2. You can dowload it here.

@Niels, feel free to use this file as a base file for the new translation tool. You can leave or remove my credits, as you want.

btw: What is going on with umbraco.de?

Cheers, Thomas

@Thomas: Hmm, two person doing the same.. aren't we? :-) My translation was nearly complete but you are faster I must admit!

I just download your file and gave it a first glance. Whew, severall missspellings on the first 50 lines of 700.

Maybe I could give this file to my girlfriend to correct it and join it with our translation, before we insert it into Umbraco? Would this be ok for you Thomas? She already spend about 4 hours on my version and maybe this way her work with this file wouldn't be total useless and we would get the best possible language file. As I told before, she's a spell-checking-machine. ;-)

What do you think? I need your ok for this to happen.

Hi Arnim

it is ok and in fact it is the thing I wanted. I know my englisch translations aren't the best ones and two people looking at it is better than one. I didn't notice this thread as I started. As I wanted to publish the file I searched in the forum (I know I should search before I begin).

I have done this file today in two hours, cause I need it for our backend users who are doing tests for upgrading to v4.

Let us make this file the best language file for umbraco Drool .

*lol*, Thomas

Sorry for the forumsearch thing! Removed the translation now, so less words are in here ;)

If you still need the translation just send me a PM or write here, since I've got it on my PC.

@Arnim: Immo Wache added a comment in my blog that he also did a german language file. I think we should work together on it to get the best result.

What do you suggest to solve this?

I'm open for any solution that creates a complete and valid language-file.

@Arnim: Immo posted a good comment to work together in my blog. So please send me an email with your email adress that we can discuss the further steps on doing a better german translation. At this time the new tool on umbraco.org is ready (got an email from Per) so that we can work on this. I will provide you all the informations needed via mail.
